WHAT IS NETBALL?
Netball is a ball sport played on a rectangular court by two teams of seven players. When trying to describe netball many will compare it to a combination of basketball, handball and ultimate frisbee, all combined into one sport.
Netball is played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries worldwide and is most popular in Commonwealth nations. It is predominantly played by women however, men and boys are becoming more involved. In 1995 netball became a recognised sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Each player has an assigned position which limits both their area on the court as well as their role on the team. The object is to score goals from within a defined area, the "D", by throwing a ball into a ring attached to a 10-foot high post with no backboard! Each goal is worth 1 point.
Key rules of netball:
-
The ball can be held for only three seconds before the player has to shoot or pass to another player.
-
You can't dribble or move with the ball.
-
It is a non-contact sport.
-
You must be 3 feet away from the player with the ball when defending. If you are closer the other team will get a penalty pass (you have to stand by their side out of play until they have released the ball).
-
Only 2 of the 7 players may shoot a goal (Goal Attack and Goal Shooter).
-
Only 2 of the 7 players can defend a shot at goal (Goal Defence and Goal Keeper).
